Description: Plank-like mask of semicircular form, with flat facial plane, small eyeholes, curved projecting forehead, and three curved horns atop. Weathered surface. Dark brown-black patina showing good age and use. Worn at Poro society events, the “angbai” masks protect participants from the “hale”, specialized spiritual knowledge and medicine. cf. “Visions from the Forests: The Art of Liberia and Sierra Leone”, p. 158-9.
