Description: |
Exceptional carved banded tecali mask with serene expression capturing the idealized aesthetics of the classical Teotihuacan period, with crisply carved naturalistic parted lips with inset carved shell teeth with some remaining orange-pink pigment highlights remaining, beautifully carved aquiline nose, almond-shaped lidded eyes under thinly arched brows, set with obsidian, rectangular ears, and the reverse hollowed out with a wide rim. Overall scattered surface deposits. Minor ancient loss on the back of left tab ear, otherwise intact, exc. cond. Custom metal base. |
