Description: |
Heavy cast bronze standing bull, having a tall spout on his back with a wide flat rim, and having nicely rendered facial features. Wearing a thick collar. Surface cleaned to the red-brown oxide ground to reveal the details. Top rim and undersides of his feet were left uncleaned and has a heavily encrusted blue-green surface patina. A piece of the original kohl applicator is encrusted inside the neck. Missing left horn and right horn reattached, otherwise intact. Elam was an ancient kingdom of Asia, situated north of the Persian Gulf and east of the Tigris River, corresponding to the present-day province of Khuzistan in Iran. The capital of Elam was Susa. |
