Description: Terracotta, thick brick bearing an impressed cuneiform inscription translating: "Nebuchadnezzer, King of Babylon, provisioner of Esagil and Ezida, prime son of Nabopolassar, King of Babylon." Nebuchadnezzer was the king who laid siege for 18 months after which the city surrendered. Thousands of Jews were deported with their king, while others took refuge in Egypt. Some normal weathering to outer edges of block, inscription in exc. cond. Rare.
Provenance: Ex. Bonhams, 1999. N.Y.C., private col. Similar example on exhibit, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
