Description: |
Solid pottery zebu bull, hand-built from pottery and intricately painted with black striations over a creamy pink ground. Standing on all four attenuated legs, this burly beast features an elongated body and a massive hump. Two large horns arch from the animals head, which is fixed with a pair of thin ears and a cylindrical snout. The Zebu is the domesticated form of the Asian aurochs. The humped bull was a recurring theme on the decorative and ritual arts from this civilization, as they were revered for their strength and virility. Overall surface encrustation. Intact, exc. cond. A beautiful example. |
