Etruscan Terracotta Head - Ca. 5th Cent BC. Just smaller than life-sized,
9"H. Hollow molded brown-buff terracotta (typical coarse tempered clay
with specks of shimmering black obsidian), woman's head with sensitive
features. She wears a close cropped hairdo with short curls at the top,
straight locks at bottom and a "page-boy" front showing that she was a
woman of high fashion for her day. Realistic portrait with excellent detail,
not the typical generic votive head, this is a portrait and probably made
in the likeness of a woman of some means who actually existed and whose
name is long since forgotten. Tip of nose professionally restored and
a stable age crack at the anatomical left eye through the page-boy. Old
custom stand (unchanged from Mr. Arrau's days of ownership). Nice. Ex.
