Description: Matching pair of polychromed volute kraters, each decorated over white slip in shades of brown, brick red, purple, pale blue, gray and reserved white on a brilliant pink ground. Obverses depict Nike in a quadriga, her steeds with varied coats, a scale pattern on the neck. The reverses with frontal winged heads of Nike emerging from scrolling tendrils, laurel wreaths on the necks. Female masks in relief on the volutes. Strong mineral deposits on the surfaces. A few minor areas of faded paint and normal highpoint wear, otherwise both are in exc. cond. Rare, elegant and beautiful examples.
