Description: Bold expressive and lifelike mask of a mature man with deep creases and naturalistic heavy folds, carved of wood with gesso outer layer. The ferocious expression is enhanced by bulging browbones which hang over large eyes with open circular pupils, thick beak nose with large open nostrils, and open mouth. Deep red painted surface with traces of white in eyes. Light surface wear, wear hole in inner corner of eye, old varnish to surface. Old label attached states,”European Tyrol, Character of Old Man in Festival Play”.
