Fine detailed beater carved with sensitively carved face with closed eyes, wide nose, closed lips, and scarification on sides; hair is composed in three rounded sections, and the rectangular percussion surface behind head is carved with linear pattern. Neck of handle with detailed linear pattern and rectangular base frames openwork cross and recessed diamond forms. Blackened patina, traces of red pigment on left side of face and lips, trace of green pigment, and encrusted deposits. Sliver lost on front of handle, nose abraded. Custom base. |
