Description: Tear drop shaped petaloid axe having some original flint skin at the top, otherwise the bifacially knapped hand axe is completely worked and has pressure flaked edges. Old collection paper label “180” partially remains. A few nicks and a modern chip on reverse. Robert Rustafjaell authored: The Light of Egypt, London, 1909; The Earliest Known Paintings on Cloth, 1906; and Paleolithic Vessels of Egypt, 1907. His collections were published in the following catalogues: An Egyptian Collection formed by R. de Rustafjaell Bey, the Ehrich Galleries, NY (undated); The Stone Age in Egypt, Catalogue of the Interesting and Valuable Collection Formed by Mr. Robert de Rustafjaell, The Anderson Galleries, November 29th, 30th & December 1, 1915; Sothebys, London, Jan. 20th, 1913.
Provenance: Deaccessioned from The Heckscher Museum of Art, Long Island, NY., ex. Robert Rustafjaell collection, acquired prior to 1909.
