Description: |
Monumental matching pair of pottery male and female figures. The female holds a rattle in her right hand, left hand resting on her knee and wearing a knee length skirt, double strand necklace and small ear ornaments. The male seated with legs crossed and hands resting on his raised knees is wearing a loincloth, double strand necklace, headband and ear ornaments. Both have medium tan slip surfaces with some remaining traces of black painted decoration. Both are repaired from approximately eight large original pieces with restoration over the breaklines. Weathered and somewhat encrusted surfaces with scattered slip losses. Very rare to find figures this large. Very impressive. |
