Description: Large and important cast silver standing Janus deity figure, representing the god of past and future, beginnings and transitions, protector of gates, doorways and passages. Holding both hands to his waist and wearing a knee length garment. Areas of blue-green patina with heavy surface encrustation, several areas of eroded surface and losses to the head and faces. One corner of the integral base reattached. An extremely rare example.
Provenance: Estate collection of Nourollah Elghanayan, NYC., acquired 1960s - 70s.
