Large thick-ribbed shell carved with a birds head at the top with drilled eyes and a triangular beak, probably depicting Imdugud, a lesser known divinity or monster in several Mesopotamian religions, usually depicted as a massive bird who can breathe fire and water. Scattered areas of mineral deposits and surface encrustation, deep tan patina. Some minor wing edge roughness, otherwise intact, overall exc. cond. |
