| Description: |
Elaborately detailed black steatite libation bowl carved in the form of the forequarters of a lion grasping the rim of the bowl with its paws, the circular filling hole below the jaws, with fully carved striated whiskers, mane and paws, large eyes recessed and inlaid. Two smaller lion heads peer over the rim of the bowl, facing one another, their bodies fully carved in relief on the underside of the bowl. A beautifully relief carved scroliate motif between the lions. Overall scattered areas of surface encrustation. Intact, exc. cond. An exceptional example. Custom metal base. |
