| Description: |
Carved gray-green stone maskette depicting a shaman, having classic Olmec facial features, with a bow shaped lips and developed brow line. Two drilled perforations at the top of his head for attachment. Some scattered traces of red surface pigment. Overall excellent ancient surface patina. Missing tip of nose and losses to lips, rear rim chips and a few scattered chips. A beautiful quality example. This mask and the transformational mask were most likely found together in the same tomb and possibly carved by the same ancient artist. Custom bronze base. |
