Description: Finely carved deep green serpentine stylized human head maskette, boldly carved facial features, strong browlines, wide nose, high cheeks. Biconical drilled suspension holes on the upper side edges. Excellent ancient surface patina with scattered deposits and encrustation. Shallow ancient chip on the top left edge, otherwise intact, exc. cond. A top quality, beautiful example.
Provenance: The collection of Richard and Joan Hazel Crebbin, NSW, Australia. Acquired 1970’s. Ex. Leonardo Patterson collection, NYC, 1970’s. Exhibited: Realitles Gallery, Toorak, Victoria, Australia, 1979. Catalog entry #32. With a copy of the examination letter from Frederick J. Dockstader, NYC, dated August 5th, 1979, who was the ex. Director of the Museum of the American Indian / Heye Foundation, NYC, 1970’s. Exhibited: The Exhibition of Pre-Columbian Art, David Jones Art Gallery, Sydney, April 23rd-May 19th, 1979, #32.
