| Description: |
Large cast bronze fancy processional cross having it’s original inset purple glass disc jewel in the center of the arms. All arms are decorated in high relief with a ray or arm terminating with three circular elements and beaded outer borders. Long insertion tang having an upper stylized domed temple with four openwork windows. Incised stylized wings on the reverse above the temple, and a finely incised rosette on the reverse center. A few remaining traces of the original gilt surface, and having some scattered blue-green surface patina on a dark brown-black ground. An original piece reattached in the upper left corner of the top arm, otherwise intact, overall exc. cond. Old tiered block base. A beautiful example. |
