Description: |
Three different carved stone geometricized figures, which are derived from the tradition of incised celts. All three clasp their hands across their midsections and have faces defined by trapezoidal noses and mouths. The blue-green jade figure is the most Olmec in style with it’s cleft head and physiognomy, interpreted as a germinating plant. The minimalism of the two other figures, which may reflect a more regional influence, and makes interpretation more difficult. Amulets, they may have been used in shamanic rituals. All are intact, exc. cond. |
