Description: |
Tan-salmon buffware pottery Caddo bottle with tall neck and flared mouth, teardrop shape body with swirled incisions, highly burnished surface. Late Caddoan potters developed sophisticated combed spiral design patterns to decorate their carefully formed vessels. This type of decoration, with focus on fine line spirals, is characteristic of Keno Trail Incised. Neck reattached and and a minor flake on the lip rim, some minor restored rim roughness, otherwise intact. A rare and elegant example. |

Private East coast collection, inv. # JG27, acquired by the current collection in 1997, ex. Jon G. Griffin, Columbia, South Carolina. |
