| Description: |
The figure retains a certain blockiness: the stone is not greatly undercut or perforated. The jade was highly polished. Veins of what may be iron run through the stone. This were-jaguar is in a seated pose with the legs seemingly crossed, though only the knees are rendered, the feet obscured by the arms, which are thrust straight downward before them. The hands are fisted and lack physiognomic detailing. His headdress is a close-fitting cap with chin strap and a broad headband with a central, portal-shaped medallion. In addition to his helmet-like cap, he wears a smooth-edged cape, the back of which has not survived. Natural roughness or ancient damage to the front top of the head. An exceptional example. |
