| Description: |
“Angokh-Nio-Byeri”, reliquary head, carved of hardwood in classic expressive stylized form, with prominent rounded forehead, large circular eyes with one metal disc inlay intact, and face tapering to tiny downturned mouth. Hair carved in three sections hanging parallel to long narrow neck. Originally anointed with palm oil, the palm oil formed part of the process of purification of the sacred sculptures. Left eye inlay lost but nail remains still extant, long staff neck shortened. Black burnished patina with layered deposits. Custom base. |
