Size: 2-1/8 x 1-1/2 x 1-1/4 (5.4 x 3.8 x 3.2 cm).

Description: Extremely fine miniature Olmec seated figure, having a characteristic fleshy body with a large, elongated head, buff clay with cream slip and traces of red pigment. The facial features are classic Olmec in appearance. One leg is drawn up and both hands rest on the ground. The figure wears shorts. Although only 2" high, it has a strong presence. Scattered areas of mineral deposits on the surface. Repaired from four original pieces with restoration over the break lines. A beautiful example. (Note: estimate in catalog was in error).
Provenance: Private East coast collection, acquired by the current collection in 2009. Economos Works of Art, Santa Fe, NM. Private Collection, Santa Fe, acquired in the 1970s. Ex. Merrin Gallery, NYC.
