Size: 5”H. x 4- 1/8”W. (13 x 10.5 cm).

Description: Salmon color pottery zoomorphic vessel representing two opossums embracing around a gourd. The back paws are entwined. One hugs the other around the neck while the other holds the gourd with its back paws. The two heads are turned away from each other. The teeth are clearly seen, defined by small grooves. The eyes are elongated in a coffee bean shape. The ears are perked. Sections of the gourd are demarked by grooves. The opening of the vase is at the top of one of the two opossum heads. Scattered areas of mineral deposits and surface encrustation. Intact, exc. cond. A rare example. (Note: estimate in catalog was in error).
Provenance: Private NY. collection, acquired by the current collection in 2003, from Galerie Mermoz, Paris. Private European Collection. Acquired prior to 1971.
