Description: |
Buff pottery head off an adolescent Olmec figure, depicted with thick lips, cleft chin and slit eyes. Hairdo consists of two tufts on either side of the head, shaved in the center, in typical Olmec style. Traces of pigment, light surface wear and roughness. On an old lucite block. Together with a Veracruz monkey figure on tripod legs, the rear is a working whistle. Has tail raised in curlique and bears a double head crest. Painted with black bitumen on half of the surface. Intact. Old penned “24” on reverse. |
