Description: |
Carved wood mask with black painted highlights, coarse features in a boldly carved human face mask, having a down-turned mouth and his nose is shaped like a whale’s tail. These human-whale masks had a long tradition among Eskimo groups. Excellent old surface patina. Some old loss to his left cheek, otherwise intact. A very expressive example. |
