Size: 2-3/4”H. x 8-3/8”L. x 6”W.

Description: Polychrome decorated pottery rectangular fruitera, having a low pedestal base. Boldly decorated with a mythological standing ferocious creature, having a large snout with an open toothy mouth, and spiked curled head crest. Large claws on both his hands and feet. Scattered mineral deposits on the surface. Repaired from approximately seven original pieces with restoration and repainting over the break lines. A general refreshing to the painted surface. Rectangular fruiteras are very rare.
Provenance: Estate of Peter H. Tillou, CT., acquired 1990’s, then to family by descent. Collection # 217. Appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014.
