Description: Natural buff color pottery figural couple having a dark cream slip and traces of red pigment. depicting an aged lecherous man with a broad leering grin embraces a young female and slides his hand under her waistband. This is a rare theme in Olmec art, but one that went on to have a long history among the later Maya. Classic figures continue the same concept of old men fondling young women. The significance of the imagery, if there is one beyond what one sees, remains unknown. Overall scattered mineral deposits on the surface. Some surface weathering, mostly on the old man’s back, the female’s head has been reattached, with break line left visible, some minor loss along the break line. An extremely rare and interesting example.
