Dance mask carved of heavy hardwood, of a female character possibly Gu, with fine detailed coiffure with central part, and idealized face with small slit eyes, long straight nose, small scarification marks, and coiled ears. Thick hollowed collar supports mask below. Layered patina indicates multiple repainted layers from repeated use. Age cracks, minor paint loss. Traces of red and green pigment. |
