| Description: |
A bodhisattva figure seated in meditation, carved from reddish sandstone. The figure has downcast eyes and a rounded face, framed by a foliate crown rising above the brow. The robes fall in folds across the shoulders and lap, with the hem extending over a rectangular throne. The hands rest in dhyana mudra, the gesture of meditation, cradling a spherical wish-granting jewel, or cintamani. A relief quadruped, possibly a lion or mythic mount, appears at the base of the throne.
Head has been professionally reattached with restoration over break lines. Loss to one ear or horn of animal beneath throne. Age-expected weathering to surface with some chips and abrasions in areas as well as losses to pigment in areas. Otherwise, very nice with good remaining detail.
