| Description: |
Cast in the style of late Shang Dynasty bronzes. This handled ritual wine vessel, or you, reflects the Qing-period practice of studying and reinterpreting early Chinese bronze forms, part of a broader tradition of scholarly revivalism. Cast in leaded brass, the vessel takes the flattened oval form of a Shang-period you, originally used in ancestral rites, raised on a ring foot and fitted with a domed, finial-topped lid. An arched bail handle spans the short axis, secured to the shoulder by zoomorphic terminals. Low-relief decoration covers the body in bands of stylized dragon, bird, and geometric motifs, with a raised taotie mask centered on the lid.
Weathering to surface as shown, all commensurate with age. Otherwise, intact and excellent with rich patina and earthen encrustations throughout.
