Description: |
Natural flint nodule, typical of the Nile Valley flints, used for hundreds of millennia for tool making. This appears to have the profile head of an ibis carved into one face, but is more probably a natural concretion, coincidentally looking like an ibis head. Interesting as it was recovered along with stone tools, and probably revered because of the ibis head. |

Deaccessioned from The Heckscher Museum of Art, Long Island, NY., ex. Robert Rustafjaell collection, acquired prior to 1909. |
