Carved wood figure of a noblewoman offering to suckle her child, sitting on a classic horseshoe chair. These figures were intended to assure the birth of a healthy son. Years of devotional rubbing can be seen on both the mother’s and baby’s faces. The chair is typical of 18th century design. |
