Description: Blackware pottery ceremonial vessel representing a toad with a human foot placed on its back. The toad's four legs are held close to its body. The throat was left matte and decorated with engraved volutes, and highlighted with a pink cinnabar pigment. The mouth is slightly parted, showing the tongue. The nostrils are hollowed out. The spherical eyes protrude and the eyelids are prominent. The human foot is placed perpendicularly on the toad's back. The toes are well defined and the nails engraved. The human ankle is the neck of the vessel. The base of the vessel's neck is closed and perforated by one central hole and six small holes, strainer or sprinkler type. Overall scattered surface deposits. Intact, exc. cond. A rare example.
